Petro and his wife, together with their six children, lived in a small village in the Zaporizhzhia region. They had a home, steady jobs, and their children went to school and kindergarten. But in February 2022, everything changed — their village came under occupation.
“For some time, we stayed to help others and serve in the local church,” Petro recalls. “But eventually, we realized we had to save our children and leave.”
The family headed west to Ukraine, but over the course of a year, they changed their place of residence six times, looking for shelter and an opportunity to start over.
“We were very tired of this constant travelling,“ says Petro. “We wanted to stop and start our lives over again.“
After many months of uncertainty, the Prykhodko family finally managed to buy a small house and return to their home region. The house, however, was old and required major repairs. Petro, who works as a builder, decided to restore it himself — turning the rundown space into a safe home for his wife and children.
“Right now, we live in one part of the house while repairing the other,” he says. “We’re pouring concrete floors, plastering walls, fixing everything bit by bit. Thanks to the funds we received from the Foundation, we were able to buy sand, gravel, and other materials. It’s been a huge help for our family.”
Thanks to funding from Sails of Hope and support from the Charitable Foundation "Angels of Salvation", Petro's family was able to purchase the necessary building materials to renovate their new home.
