When Liudmyla's family decided to take in her 94-year-old grandmother Nadiia, they were worried about whether they would be able to provide her with comfort and proper care, but it turned out that it was Grandma who filled their home with warmth, love and new meaning.
"When Grandma first moved in with us, our lives were filled with new colours. She constantly told stories from her life, helped with household chores and spoiled us with incredibly delicious food," says Liudmyla.
Until 2019, Nadiia lived independently, but when her gradual loss of vision made it more difficult for her to cope with everyday tasks, her grandniece took her in. But despite her advanced age, the grandmother remained active, cheerful and independent.
"Although my grandmother began to lose her sight, she never lost her optimism," Liudmyla recalls with a smile. — "Every morning she did exercises and went out into the yard. Now it is more difficult for her because she has completely lost her sight and can hardly move, but even lying down, she continues to do exercises. She is a true example of strength of spirit for us."
Nadiia used to write articles for local newspapers, constantly welcomed guests at home, and treated them to homemade delicacies. Even now, when she has completely lost her sight and cannot take care of herself, she continues to inspire those around her, saying, "This is the meaning of our life."
"We thought it would be difficult to live together, but it turned out to be the opposite," says Liudmyla. "She helped us a lot, and now that she needs help, we are happy to repay her with care."
Today, Liudmyla's family takes full care of 100-year-old Nadiia: they buy her medicine, adult nappies, ointments and her favourite foods.
However, these expenses have a significant impact on the family budget.
That is why the family decided to register for multi-purpose cash assistance, which will help cover basic needs and, over time, purchase an anti-bedsore mattress or a special bed for Nadiia's greater comfort.
Registration for cash assistance takes place within the framework of a project implemented by the Charitable Foundation "Angels of Salvation" in partnership with JERU (Joint Emergency Response in Ukraine by international non-governmental organisations @welthungerhilfe and @concernworldwide) and funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.
